recent years with the opening of the
Oresund Link, providing for the first
time, a direct road link between Denmark and Sweden.
But according to Lars Korup, head
of cargo, the airport’s gravitational
pull is distinctly moving south.
“We remain the most important
cargo gateway to Scandinavia, but
now we are seeing an increasing
trend of attracting more traffic from
Northern Europe,” he says. “This can
clearly be seen with the increasing
number of general sales agents, who
previously only represented Scandinavian countries, but now who also have
points in Northern Europe in their
sales areas.”
The airport has witnessed a strong
growth in freighter services from
Asia, particularly China, with both
Air China and China Cargo Airlines
regular freighter callers.
“We are hoping to attract even
more Asian freighter services, particularly from Southern China,” says
Korup.
Already a long established caller,
Singapore Airlines Cargo operates
four B747-400F services a week from
Singapore. But under the terms of a
seventh freedom traffic rights agreement, the airline has recently been
allowed to extend services across
the North Atlantic, with a weekly
B747-400F operation to Chicago and
Dallas.
With a growing traffic input from
Northern Europe, Copenhagen Airport is already planning to further
develop cargo facilities.
